Still a Work In Progress

Although the actual Netizen Desktop code is in good shape for a March release, our unified MacOSX and Windows desktop UI still needs a lot of work.  Below is a screenshot of the UI as of this afternoon.  Notice how we removed the sidebar and relocated its contents above the navigation toolbar.  We're still contemplating whether or not to keep that faint border between the menu bar and the toolbar.  It seems to have a cleaner look without that 1 pixel border, but for now we'll stick to the current Windows UI style guide.

We still have icons, design elements, and tons of CSS left to do to complete the UI refresh. This release is designed to integrate well with our new website design and especially with the MacOSX look and feel, but it should also look pretty under Vista and XP. I'll post another screenshot as I make progress with the reskinning work throughout the next couple of weeks.  I can't wait to get rid of that blue, Windows XP color.  It's hurting my eyes.

Looks great! Can't wait until it comes out. Also, for what it's worth, I think you should keep the 1 pixel border.

So, I guess it won't be ready till April/May?

The pixel border is staying for now. It looks a bit weird without. Hopefully the new UI will be ready to roll by late April or early May. But that estimate is a moving target since it depends so heavily on a number of other people's contributions.

No offense guys, I love CN but you need to work on your deadlines. I'd rather see a product released far earlier than the deadline than a product whose deadline has to be continually pushed back for months.

Yes, I must admit that we have been pretty horrible with deadlines. But we reached a point with the application where we could no longer extend it without really fixing some underlying problems in the software's architecture. Along with some initial poor planning on my part, that pretty much prevented us from releasing more frequent updates to the software.

I am hoping this will change when we make our 9th release public and turn more features around in a shorter amount of time as we integrate with the web.

Finally we are canceling our plans to develop a Linux version of our desktop client until we gain more resources. We will be concentrating our efforts on our windows, mac and web application.

Thank you for your frankness. It is very much appreciated.
