The NY Tech Worlds Collide

Just as a perfect lunar eclipse happens on very rare, but special occasions, tonight members of the NY tech community were treated to a special night - one in which the NY Tech Meetup held its monthly meeting, and NextNY held one of its socials.  Those who attended benefitted with nearly five hours of great tech entertainment and socialization.

I'll start my recap of the night at the February NY Tech Meetup.  The format was the same as before...5 presenters, each with five minutes.  So, without further ado, here's what happened tonight:

Adam Bosworth at the Google NY Speaker Series

Tonight, Google’s NYC office hosted the first of its Google New York Speaker Series. The speaker was none other than Adam Bosworth, VP of Engineering, and former BEA and Microsoft VP. His topic for the night was "Physics, Speed, and Imprecision." Bosworth is an icon in the software engineering world, so it was a pleasure being able to learn from a man who’s been involved with the development of technologies such as XML and AJAX.

The January NY Tech Meetup

Well, 2006 is over and life is back to normal after another crazy holiday season. Hopefully everyone out there had a nice relaxing break, ate too much, and got some great gifts…we’re still loving Wii Sports over here, even though Chris is killing us all in Tennis.

“Tech The Halls…” - The December NY Tech *Holiday* Mega- Meetup

So tonight marked the final NY Tech Meetup of the year, and again there was a packed house, this time at The Great Hall at Cooper Union. This mega-event featured a good selection of presenters, and an even better selection of drinks and food – all perfect for the holidays.

All Partied Out

Well, it's 1:30am and we just got back from the TechCrunch 8 Party here in good ol' New York City.  Michael Arrington and his team put on a great event that really showcased some of NY's great startups.  299244820_7e128bdd45.jpgThe crowd was really into all the demos spread out throughout the venue and kept the place pretty packed for over 4 hours.

Party Like a Netizen With Us at TechCrunch NY Tonight

Tonight, Michael Arrington and the good folks of TechCrunch will be invading New York for TechCrunch 8 and yes, we'll be there too.  Civil Netizen is an official Product Level Sponsor and we'll be part of the demo mashpit.   We'd love to meet all of our fellow Netizens out there, so definitely stop by, say hi, and chat with us - we always like to hear from you all.

Tonight should be a great time, and we hope to see many of you there!

The November NY Tech Meetup

Greetings fellow Netizens. It’s been a crazy day for us…with the release of our Beta 6 version of Netizen (which I encourage everyone to try out), to tonight’s Meetup, it’s been a whirlwind of a day.

I just got back from the November NY Tech Meetup, this time, held at the luxurious and ultra-hip NY home of Google. 292787271_59e59ae511.jpgYes, for the first time, the event was held in the auditorium of the new Google office, which many of you have probably read about recently.

The October NY Tech Meetup

It's once again that time of the month - the October NY Tech Meetup, again held at the NYU School of Medicine.  As usual, the crowd was packed with an enthusiastic group of folks interested in learning about the city's best new tech companies and products.  Interestingly enough, a large portion of the crowd was made up of first timers.  Scott even wondered if he was losing folks.  Well, your friendly neighborhood Netizens are still attending and as usual, we'd like to recap what we saw and thought of the event. So without further ado, here'sa quick summary of the presenters:

Recapping The September NY Tech Meetup

Well, it’s the first Tuesday of September, and that can mean only one thing…tonight was the September NY Tech Meetup.  This month’s session was once again held at the NYU School of Medicine Farkas Auditorium, not to be confused with the September Fark Party held at the NYU Meetup Center.

Tonight featured another interesting set of new and old tech companies across a variety of different spaces.  Without further ado, here's a quick summary of the night with some personal thoughts interjected:

Netizen Makes Sharewood Picnic 64

Netizen was featured this week on Robin Good’s Sharewood Picnic 64. No, there is no food involved, and it has nothing to do with the hottest new N64 games. Sharewood Picnic is a “weekly collection of some of the most interesting new media tools and resources hand-picked by Robin Good and Livia Iacolare during their daily online explorations.”

Robin’s blog has a good mix of interesting tech news and commentary and his Sharewood Picnic lists always have an interesting array of cool new websites and tools that I recommend you check out. We’re certainly honored to have made the list and hope you take a moment to check out some of the sites that they review.
